About Us
History
Progress Oshkosh was started in early 2004 by a small group of concerned citizens who wanted to effect positive change and attitudes within the Oshkosh area.
The group sent out invitations to over 70 people as a means of gauging whether or not others would also be interested in volunteering their efforts and resources to effect change.
In June 2004, a large group of nearly 60 people convened at City Center, in downtown Oshkosh, to listen to what the originators had in mind and to discuss if it was a worthwhile venture.
The large group overwhelmingly agreed to pursue a more structured process to facilitate change and charged a smaller group of approximately 16 to establish what Progress Oshkosh would look like.
The smaller group convened and named itself the Steering Committee. It began by identifying core values that would unite Progress Oshkosh’s General Membership and Oshkosh as a whole.
Mission
The Four Points:
- Accountability for City and County Personnel
- Private, Public, Non-Profit Partnership
- Quality of Life
- Economic Development
Progress Oshkosh is an issue-based, volunteer organization united in four points. The grassroots-effort is driven by the General Membership’s willingness to voice its opinions and contribute resources to the prioritized issues.
The organization is meant to be constantly changing and issue-oriented, with an emphasis on positive change.
